About This Event

As we stroll through historic streets, hear compelling stories from the early 20th century, featuring courageous Black women from the Civil Rights Movement and white women who broke barriers to support their families. Learn about the trailblazers who shaped politics long before gaining the right to vote.

  • Amy Durrell approaches history by examining landscapes to understand past lifestyles. Since starting a job in the Candler Building in 1986, she has explored Atlanta's history and led walking and biking tours since 1987. Her interests include residential stories, the origins of Civil Rights activism, and women's contributions in the city. With a Master of Heritage Preservation from Georgia State University, Amy focuses on Georgia's narratives and researches the history of rural schools, including oral histories from Black students in 1940s Putnam County.

History Afoot Atlanta offers historian-led walking tours that highlight the connections between past and present. Our engaging tours expand Atlanta's narratives, fostering conversations about the diverse individuals who shaped the city.

  • The exact meeting location for the tour will be provided in your confirmation email once your admission purchase is complete.

  • MODA reserves the right to cancel a program if the minimum enrollment requirements are not met.

If you need to cancel your plans for any reason, we kindly request that you notify us 48 hours prior to the event start.
