Al Dente: A World Pasta Tour

  • Museum of Design Atlanta 1315 Peachtree Street Northeast Atlanta, GA, 30309 United States (map)

In-Person

Pasta is one of Italy’s most famous culinary masterpieces, serving up delightful shapes and sauces to many. But pasta isn’t only enjoyed in Italy. As world events led to the migration of many Italians to different countries, their cultural traditions and foodways went with them. On this guided tour of our new exhibition, Al Dente: The Design of Pasta, we’ll be following pasta around the world and highlighting some of the most iconic dishes that were created when old family recipes merged with the unique flavors of their new homes.

‌About the Exhibition

Al Dente: The Design of Pasta explores the many ways in which the processes of making, cooking, and eating pasta serve as acts of design. It showcases an array of pasta shapes — each created to maximize flavor, texture, and nutritional value — and the tools used to make them. Also addressed are the impacts of industrialization on pasta design, pasta’s promotion to consumers through graphic arts, the future of pasta in our era of 3D and 4D printing, and contemporary efforts to create new pasta shapes.
