Looking for fun and meaningful ways to tell a story through craft? Stitch your stories into your very own felt collage!

Join local textile artist and educator Camisha Butler, creator of Memory Map (pictured above), for a hands-on evening of creativity inspired by our Threads of Change workshop series! Perfect for all skill levels, this compelling session combines storytelling with textiles, text, found imagery, and personal memories. Learn more about the artist and design a memory map meaningful to you!

What to Expect:

  • Discover the art of storytelling: Learn how to weave personal stories into your designs using textiles, images, and a sense of place as inspiration.

  • Explore innovative techniques: Watch and listen as Camisha Butler shares her creative process and the meaning behind her memory mapping designs.

  • Get hands-on with creativity: Design your own unique memory map, combining fiber art techniques, stitching, collage, felt, found imagery, and personal memories to tell your story.

By the end of the evening, you’ll leave with a completed piece, fresh ideas to fuel your creativity, and a new community of fellow makers.

All materials are provided, but bring in your own found images if you’d like. Don’t forget to bring your creativity and a willingness to try something new!

About Camisha Butler:

Camisha Butler is an Atlanta-based textile artist/educator. Her work is informed by Neo-Luddite philosophy and the act of preserving and promoting the traditional craft practices of the ancestors. A natural storyteller, she uses a colorful joyful aesthetic to communicate social commentary and autobiographical reflections through craft-based media such as weaving, applique, embroidery, and handbuilding pottery.

Threads of Change Workshop Series

Threads of Change explores the connection between nature and fiber design through large-scale installations that reveal how fiber arts tell stories, inspire change, and deepen our connection to the natural world.

To complement the exhibition, MODA will host hands-on workshops led by local artists, Kimani Johnson, Sayma Hossain, Camisha Butler, and Amanda Banks, whose work reflects these themes. Open to beginners and experienced makers alike, these workshops offer a chance to create, connect, and explore how fiber design can address environmental and social challenges.

Join us to discover how fiber design inspires creativity and change!
